When Lonnie Jackson leaves Harlem for a basketball scholarship to a college, he know he must keep his head straight and his record clean. That's the only way he'll have a chance of making it to the pros. The Outside Shot Chapter #3
In chapter 3, Lonnie returns back to school. He starts out sitting in his American Government and meets his teacher, Mr.Weiser. Instantly as Lonnie scans the classroom he realizes there are only three other black students in the class. The teacher was doing his lesson so quickly, Lonnie didn't have enough time to write hardly anything. Lonnie had many doubts about the class as he was leaving. But on his way out, a brown-skinned girl taps him on his shoulder and asks him his name. Her name was Sherry Jewett, she was also in the class with Lonnie. It turned out that she was also a/an athlete there. She later tells Lonnie that she's trying to get a study group going. Lonnie agrees to it, and then ask how many people are in the group? She replies "two, because the other twenty-five don't have time." After they set up a time, Lonnie heads back to his dorm and then leaves for tryouts. He then gets to see all of his roommates in action, and sees that they're all pretty good. Soon after practice, Lonnie runs into a redshirt on the team, and he explains to Lonnie this game they've got going. It turns out to be a gambling league for anybody who's truly good at basketball. And from that point on they convince Lonnie to play.
The Outside Shot Chapter #2
In chapter 2, they give Lonnie a job working with a kid named Eddie Brignole. Lonnie's job basically is to be a counselor to him and attempt to get Eddie to open up. They work together at least 6 hours a week. And along with Eddie comes his mean and aggressive mother. She is so very protective of Eddie that she goes where ever he does. Lonnie tries so hard to get Eddies attention. So he starts a game of basketball while Eddie sitting down and not responding. Lonnie thinks that Eddie's consistently ignoring his every action. But in actuality, Eddie notices everything. Surprisingly to Lonnie, Eddie has been keeping score of all the shots. When Lonnie soon realizes this, he starts to pass the ball to Eddie to see if he'll o anything, it goes straight off of his chest. Eddies mom soon has enough of the treatment Lonnie's giving him. Lonnie then tries to get Mrs. Brignole to lighten up. He does so, but when Eddie has enough grabs the ball. Lonnie tries to convince Eddie to shoot the ball and he does. Eddie was easily discouraged when he missed, but he continued to try once more. When he made a shot he glanced over at Lonnie and he says "good shot!" Eddies mother was in a total shock. But by Eddies expression, Lonnie could tell that Eddie didn't feel great about himself at all for some reason.

The Outside Shot Chapter #1
In the begining of this book the author, Walter Dean Myers, explains who Lonnie Jackson is. He's a young african american from New York and gets a scholarship to play basketball. The college that wants him to play for them is in Cisne, Tennessee. So when he ends up moving he leaves his life behind along with his mother. When he came upon the dorm area where he'd be living, which was called orly hall, he malso met his three roommates. There names were Juice, Colin, and Sly. They were all there because of the scholarship to play ball. And as they began to speak to each other, they formed a bond. And when they all went to there first day of tryouts, there reactions were all stunning. They had never been in such an organization as they were. They also met the assistant coach who was more of an head caoch because he was mainly calling all the shots. They also pin-pointed out the highligh players who were desytined to show out. And then they finally realized who was a redshirt and who was a true rookie. My overall outlook of the book so far is amazing. I'm a little anxious to see what the second chapter has in store.
